“If you want to find the secrets of the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency and vibration.”― Nikola Tesla For those who sing, practice kirtan, dance, move, meditate, make music or simply listen to it, most can attest to a distinct feeling, an experience unlike any other. It starts inside you and moves outward, making the skin and cells feel as if they have come alive; many describe it as a tingling
sensation, a hum, or a glow. For most people, it is referred to as “vibration”. Scientifically, vibration is any time particles move back and forth in an attempt to restore equilibrium. Many of you know that when we look deeper, we find that, actually, all things vibrate, all of the time, simply at different frequencies; there is no such thing as stillness in the universe. You don’t have to sing or dance to vibrate, because you and everything around you are in constant symphonic vibration. Knowing this, when I read an article 1 highlighting how the Earth’s seismic vibrations had been quieted by up to 1/3 in some cities due to the “stay at home” orders enacted across the globe because of the Coronavirus Pandemic, the little hippie inside me saw the unique vibrational opportunity this moment presented. For those that are highly sensitive to energetics, you may have already started to enjoy the decrease in “vibrational noise”, but almost everyone can attest to the literal quietness of our communities. The Earth’s natural vibrations that geoscientists previously had to measure from 100 meters below the Earth’s surface, are now easily detectable from where they sit. With fewer machines, cars, and trains resonating across the Earth’s crust, we have been gifted a brief moment of vibrational quietude that we can use for positive action, if we so choose. How can we, separated in our homes, but together in vibration and spirit, use this moment for good? One clear action is to increase global, synchronized meditation. Certain groups have already begun this practice by holding aligned meditations across time zones, whether by simply announcing a time to begin or live- streaming guided meditation or prayers. Churches have begun these practices as well in their own communities. Joining a meditation group online like Sangha Live 2 is great way to learn about meditation and engage in a virtual “sangha” or community during isolation or anytime if you haven’t yet found the right group or have been reluctant to join one in your physical location. If you have never paid attention to your internal vibration, now is indeed the time. We have been forced to work less, move less, and interact with others less; maybe now we finally have more time to focus on beneficial additions to our lives, like meditation, movement, or mantra. Many people who are facing frightening and uncertain circumstances or heightened anxiety during the pandemic can use meditation to reduce stress, relieve depression, and even control pain 3 . Meditation is not only completely free and available at any moment, but has been scientifically proven to have similar effects 4 to talk therapy and anti-depressant medications; and these effects aren’t just limited to the time in actual meditation, but are observed throughout the day as well. Why not give it a try today? You’ve got nothing to lose…except your anxiety. 1 https://weather.com/en-IN/india/coronavirus/news/2020-04-05-coronavirus-lockdown-reduces- earth-seismic-vibrations 2 https://sangha.live/ 3 https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/12-benefits-of-meditation#section12 4 https://news.harvard.edu/gazette/story/2018/04/harvard-researchers-study-how-mindfulness- may-change-the-brain-in-depressed-patients/

Yes, I have also felt the quietness in the world! I live in a crowded city, so before the stay at home orders, I usually sensed vibrations early in the morning from all the buses and cars going by which created much noise and distraction. I now feel such a peace when I go out in the morning. During other hours of the day, it also feels quieter but not as much. Thank you for this powerful observation and recommendation to join a meditation group.
