Self-care—taking care of yourself. If you are responsible for caring for others, especially little ones, you need to first be taking care of yourself. Although there are countless ways to do so, below are some ideas to get started. And, no, you don’t need to go out and buy some fancy face mask (unless you want to, then by all means, go right ahead!).

An effective way to relax into the present moment is be focusing on your senses. Taste, Touch, Sight, Sound, Smell. Taste -enjoy your favorite seasonal fruit -eat your favorite meal -nourish your body with a hydrating beverage (try adding fresh fruit, lemon or mint to sparkling water) -prepare a cup of tea -savor some chocolate -have your favorite dessert Touch -take your time applying your favorite moisturizer -enjoy a warm bath or shower -receive a foot, back, or neck massage -use a body or face scrub (try coffee, sugar, or salt with your favorite oil) -apply a face mask Sight -watch your favorite movie or show -go look at a beautiful garden -video call a friend or loved one you haven’t seen in a while -lay on some grass and cloud watch -relax by a body of water and watch ripples and waves Sound -listen to your favorite song -follow a guided meditation -listen to a sound bath -play healing frequency music -play an instrument -go outside and listen to the sounds of nature -sing (loudly and proudly!) Smell -light your favorite candle and watch the flame dance as you take in the scent -diffuse some essential oils or safely smell them (always dilute properly) -find some flowers or herbs to smell or work with (display in home, prepare tea or food) There is no wrong way to practice self-care. You can include as many people or pets as you like and customize to your heart’s desires (and time and resources). The only rule is to be present and give to yourself. Whether you have one minute or 3 hours, treasure the time and enjoy it with all your senses. Happy self-caring!
