Yoni steaming is a beautiful & sacred self-care practice used by women for centuries to heal the vagina. The gentle steaming process is said to penetrate through your vagina and bring the healing plants to the tissues. I became interested in yoni steaming as a part of my personal practice of honoring my divine feminine. For me, it started with actually holding a mirror up & seeing my vagina, & admiring it for all the power, beauty & sensuality it holds.
Once I saw her, I decided to "treat" her to this lovely practice. After the first months menstrual cycle, I noticed lighter & brighter blood, & no cramping!
I choose to do this practice once per week(usually on a Friday).
There are many benefits of Yoni Steaming, that not only helps with the physical cleansing of the vagina, but also helps with emotional & spiritual healing as well.
Benefits of yoni steaming:
• Tones the tissues of the vagina as it heals.
• Regulates menstrual cycle and flow
• Reduces symptoms of menstruation such as cramping & bloating.
• Helps Increase fertility
• Clears uterine fibroids, endometriosis & cysts on the ovaries
• Helpful with pelvic pain, vaginal dryness & tightness & painful intercourse.
• Helps to reconnect to femininity
• healing from a miscarriage, postpartum or an abortion
• Heal hemorrhoids
• Supports pre-menopause
Contraindications:
• Do not steam if you’re pregnant or if you are trying to conceive; consult a certified practitioner • Do not steam during your period • Do not steam if you have an IUD • Use only dried or fresh herbs, no essential oils • Do not steam if you have any type of internal or external infection • Speak with a certified practitioner or midwife about steaming postpartum
Here are some commonly used helpful herbs for yoni steaming:
nettles,red raspberry leaf, lavender, rose, chamomile, motherwort, and calendula..
Use 1 cup of herbs each time you steam.
How to steam:
You will need to have a steaming chair to sit on. I have found the Squatty Potty to work incredibly well. Just place your steamed herbs in the open space & sit on top. Any place where you can squat over the herbs safely..
Bring to a boil 3 quarts of filtered water. Then, add 1 cup of the dried herbs. cover, and simmer for around 5 minutes.Let the herbs cool for 5 minutes.Then transfer the herbs to another bowl or pot. Then place it under your steam seat. Undress from the waist down &
use a towel long enough to drape over your hips, legs & feet, in order to seal in the steam.
This is a great time to read, meditate or enjoy a facial mask. :-)
